My birthday is always the day I re-up my adoption of a deserving primate being cared for by the wonderful people at
Monkey World Ape Rescue Centre in Dorset.
As I explained last year, since my long-time adopted 'child', Kai, has moved to Spain as part of a breeding program, I've now taken on a chimpanzee called Mojo (pictured above; and, yes, The X-Men connection did factor heavily into my choice).
Mojo was used as a photographer's prop in Spain before he was rescued and arrived at Monkey World in mid-1991.
His previous owner had tried to keep Mojo subdued by feeding him Valium, which meant by the time he came to the rescue centre he was an addict!
The experts at Monkey World believe Mojo - who lives with a group of chimps led by Butch (a fellow former photographer's prop) - was born in 1988, and say he "keeps himself out of trouble and gets on well with the others in the group".
Although I get regular newsletters from the rescue centre, Mojo doesn't tend to feature as I get the impression he's probably rather subdued compared to many of his peers.
